After leaving Palisades our next destination was Salt Lake City, UT. We spent two nights at Pony Express RV Resort in North Salt Lake, UT, which gave us time to run several “big city” errands. After leaving North Salt Lake we headed to Moab, UT to tour Arches National Park. While in Moab we stayed at Portal RV Resort. We loved the area and plan to return, but next time we’ll have a Jeep for off-roading!

After leaving Island Park, ID our next destination was Grand Teton National Park. My original intent was to stay in Jackson, WY, but I didn’t like any of the reviews I read about the RV parks in Jackson, so I reserved us a site about fifty miles from the Grand Tetons at Huskey’s RV Park in Palisades, ID. We spent a day touring Grand Teton National Park and the rest of the time just chilling and stayed a day longer than originally planned waiting for a package to arrive. We’re retired so there’s no hurry to get someplace most of the time.

To tour Yellowstone my original plan was to spend two weeks outside Yellowstone north gate in Gardiner, MT and two weeks outside Yellowstone west gate, in West Yellowstone, MT once we knew the dates we would be in the area, but I couldn’t get reservations at the RV parks at the time frame we wanted, so we revised our plans and stayed the entire time fifteen miles outside Yellowstone’s west gate in Island Park, ID at Valley View RV Park. which worked out very well! In fact so well we decided it was too hot to head south any sooner, so we ended up staying six and one half weeks, instead of a month. We really liked the area…we didn’t need to use our AC the entire time, we had beautiful valley and mountain views, the Wi-Fi worked reasonably well, we were a reasonable distance to Yellowstone National Park, but not too close to have to pay the very high resort area RV rates, but grocery shopping was challenging and expensive. While in Island Park, ID, we made several day trips into Yellowstone and a day trip to the old mining towns, Virginia City and Nevada City, MT and the rest of the time just chilled and played lots of World of Warcraft.
